NT Come Follow Me 36
Introduction:
“Ye Are the Body of Christ”
1 Kings 19:11–12
We will most often recognize the Spirit of the Lord in a Still Small Voice.
How can we find unity in
Christ?
1 Corinthians 12:13 When
you join the Church of Jesus Christ, you are “baptized into one body,” and every
body part is needed. We all need each other, and the Church suffers when one
member is hurting. Remember that. We are all part of the body of Christ.
Personal Study: God provides a way to escape temptation.
1 Corinthians 10:13 None of us have temptations (or inclinations for that matter) that are not COMMON TO MAN! Our shortcomings don’t make us special in any way. But God will provide a way for our escape as we desire to follow Him and turn to Him. This I know, because it has happened to me and for me.
Exodus 13:21; 14:13–31 God can perform mighty miracles to save us! Just as He did for the ancient Israelites.
Alma 13:27–30 Always pray that God will grant unto you repentance and forgiveness. And maintain a gratitude for those things that He has helped you to escape and overcome.
3 Nephi 18:18–19 It is important to watch and pray always, so that we with God’s help we can flee from temptation.
Personal Study: The sacrament unifies us as members of
Christ’s Church.
In the Doctrine and
Covenants, we are told to meet together oft to partake of the sacrament and to
edify one another.
1 Corinthians 10:17 Paul reminds us
that we all partake of the One Bread and that we are made One in Him.
I think that the sacrament songs can draw the congregation together as one as
well.
We are not only responsible for our own growth in receiving the sacrament, but we bear a responsibility towards each other’s care.
Personal Study: In God’s plan, men and women need each
other.
We no longer have
the cultural customs that Paul spoke of.
1 Corinthians 11 verse 11 is a eternal truth: “Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.”
We Believe in Being Chaste ““The
man and the woman are intended to learn from, strengthen, bless, and complete
each other” (Elder Bednar).
What does this truth mean in relationship to a
husband and wife?
What does this eternal truth mean for our church and community counsels?
United in Accomplishing God’s Work
Personal Study: Spiritual gifts are given to benefit all
of Heavenly Father’s children.
1 Cor 12-13
Spiritual Gifts (This is an impressive section; you can refer to it again for further study.)
“Spiritual gifts are
blessings or abilities given by God to His children through the power of the
Holy Ghost. Gifts of the Spirit are given to bless and benefit those who love
the Lord and seek to keep His commandments” (Doctrine and Covenants 46:9)
1 Corinthians 12:31 Seek earnestly
the best gifts. Doctrine and Covenants 46:8
All of Heavenly Father’s faithful sons and daughters have at least one
spiritual gift.
Have you identified
any of your spiritual gifts? Has anyone else mentioned to you gifts that they
see in you? Do you refer to your Patriarchal Blessing, so that you can know
which gifts the Lord wants you to be developing more and using in His service?
Also 1 Corinthians 14
Moroni 10:8–21, 30 Vs remember that every good gift cometh of Christ.
Doctrine and Covenants 46:8–26
Articles of Faith 1:7
Family Study: How are
you doing in this race?
1 Corinthians 9:24–27 Run the race and win the crown. Strive for self-mastery. Be temperate. Learn how to run well, with measured breathing and powerful steps. Learn to govern your own body and mind and spirit, with reliance for help from the Lord.
2 Timothy 4:7–8 Fight the good fight;
stay on the covenant path; continue in your discipleship with your Faith in
Jesus Christ. We are doing this with the hope that one day Jesus will receive
us and present us with a crown of glory.
Do I love His appearing? How am I preparing for this race? What can I do to
prepare for the Second Coming? What am I doing to prepare to return to my
Heavenly Father?
Family Study: Appreciating
the Gifts of Others
Pass a paper around the room until it ends up with its owner.
1 Corinthians 12:1–11 Spiritual gifts
Family Study: The
Holy Ghost Testifies that Jesus is the Son of God.
What can I do now to have the Holy Ghost with me and to strengthen my testimony of Jesus Christ?
1 Corinthians 12:3 no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
Family Study: We
are of one body.
1 Corinthians 12:12–27 In our families, in the
church, and in our communities, we should see the deity in one another and
treat each other with dignity.
Family Study: Charity
Never Faileth
Because Charity is the Pure love of Christ, we should look to His example of how He loves us, and we should strive to love Him and others more perfectly as well. Love really will conquer all.
“The bread which we break,
is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we being many are one bread,
and one body” (1 Corinthians
10:16–17).

There are many gods and many lords—To us there is
one God (the Father) and one Lord, who is Christ.
Vs 1-3 Like Trystin Ryan told us long ago, No one cares how much you
know, until they know how much you care.
Charity is what is important. We don't have to prove how much we
know, but we need to show how much we love, both God and our fellow man. To be
known of God, that is an important quest.
Vs 6 We worship the true and living
God and His Son Jesus Christ.
We need to look to the things which strengthen us spiritually, and
not to the things that enslave us physically.
Vs 10-13 If something I do could cause someone else to
stumble, I should refrain from doing it, so that their faith is not weakened.

Paul rejoices in his Christian liberty—He
preaches the gospel to all without charge—He is all things to all men to gain
converts.
Vs 10-14 Preachers of the gospel show also live the
tenets of the gospel. We are partakers of the power of Christ when we have
faith in Him and serve with Him.
Vs 16-23 As we preach the
gospel, we look for things that we all share in common, and teach to the
understanding of our learners. We are not seeking glory for ourselves, or to
lift ourselves above others; but we are seeking to invite others to come unto Christ
so taht we all might be made free through Him.
Vs 24-27 How are you
running? Are you running towards the prize that you want? or are you distracted
by shiny things that will quickly lose their luster?

Vs 1-4 The children of Israel were all bound by the
covenant of baptism, and they were also built upon the Rock, even Jesus Christ.
Paul clearly confirms that Jesus Christ is Jehovah, the God of the Old
Tesatment.
Vs 14-14
Paul has listed some downfalls
to the children of Israel in Moses's day, and warns us now to remember that we
can also easily fall. If we are humble and faithful to God, He will be faithful
to us and provide a way for us bear the weight of temptation and to escape.
If we flee from idolatry, this will be the greatest protection to
us.
Vs 15-18 Paul teaches us the importance of the sacrament
in always remembering Jesus and retaining a remission of our sins, and our very
need of the Bread of Life to give us life. He commends us to judge wisely.
Vs 21-23 Live
your religion every day of the week. You can't commit to keeping the
commandments with the intend of breaking them. You can't have communion with
the Spirit at the Lord's supper and eat in dens of wickedness.
Vs 24 Don't live with greed. Live for the service and improvement of those you
love. Help others be successful.
26 For the earth is the
Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.

Paul speaks of certain customs of hair and
grooming—Heresies will arise that test and prove the faithful—The sacramental
emblems are partaken in remembrance of the flesh and blood of Christ—Beware of
partaking unworthily.
Vs 1-3 Give honor to those who teach and testify of
Christ and point you towards Him. Remember Christ is the Head of us all, and
Heavenly Father is the Head unto Him; and a man is the head over his wife and
family. This is also an eternal law and the Patriarchal Order, for which I am
thankful.
Vs 11-12 In the Lord's plan the man isn't without the woman or the woman
without the man.
Though Eve was formed from Adam's rib, yet every man since has
been born of woman. We are all God's children and equal in His eyes.
Vs 16 Paul clarifies that these are mores of their
society and not facets of the Church of God.
Vs 23-32 Paul rehearses the Last Supper and the emblems of the Lord's body
in the sacrament of Jesus Christ.
We should examine ourselves, repent, and prepare to take the
sacrament worthily. We should be our own judges in this matter. We should also
help others in their preparation.

The Holy Ghost reveals that Jesus is the
Christ—Spiritual gifts are present among the Saints—Apostles, prophets, and
miracles are found in the true Church.
Vs 4-11 Gifts of the
Spirit
Vs 12-14 When we were baptized and adopted into Christ's Church, we all
became as one body. We all need one another.
Even so, they without us cannot be made perfect, nor we without
them.
Vs 18-27 Have love for each member, as you do for each
part of your own body. When one is hurt, tend to his or her need with care.
When one is offended, seek to make amends, and restore that soul to good favor,
in your sight and the eyes of the rest of the body. Don't disdain any member.
Never look on another with derision.
Vs 28-31 Appreciate your own gifts and acknowledge and appreciate the gifts of
others. When you seek after gifts, do so with the intent to bless others.

Paul discusses the high status of
charity—Charity, a pure love, excels and exceeds almost all else.
Vs 1-3 No matter what other talents and gifts we have
in life, if we are not becoming charitable, if we are not practicing charity,
if we are not loving each other, we are failing.
Vs 4-10 A list of what
charity is.
Vs 11-13 When you were a child, you were even more selfish that now, most
likely. Put that away. Seek to put others in places of importance in your view
and in theirs. Let them feel Christ's love through you.
You will see others more clearly, and you will know their
potential and their spirits more fully, and they yours, when you learn to
follow Jesus Christ and have the Holy Ghost direct you in your growth and
service.
Be faithful. Hope for the best. And pray for charity.
