Living together in love
We are seeking to become more like our Heavenly Father and
Jesus Christ through the way that we live.
Am
I becoming a new creature? 2 Corinthians 5:17
Heavenly Father and Jesus can help us change our hearts, our views, our
actions, and our very natures. We need the influence of the Holy Ghost with us
to do good and become like God.
John 16:13 The Holy Ghost speaks the words that God gives Him; He will bear record of truth to us and guide us to all truth. He will show us things that are to come.
John 14:26 The Holy Ghost can teach us all things and bring all things to our remembrance.
“[The Holy Ghost}
enlightens our minds, quickens our understandings, and touches our hearts with
revelation from God, the source of all truth. The Holy Ghost purifies our
hearts. He inspires in us a desire to live by truth, and He whispers to us ways
to do this.”
It is essential that
we seek the companionship of the Holy Ghost to be with us always.
How does striving to
have the Holy Ghost with you influence your thoughts and guide your actions and
decisions?
Follow the admonition
of Paul, and seek after those things which are worthy of and invite the Spirit.
If we are worthy of
the presence of the Holy Ghost in our lives, “we can also be worthy to live in
the presence of Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.”
This is a resource
designed to help you learn the gospel.
Follow the Spirit’s
guidance to determine how to approach your own study of the word of God.
Don’t feel bound by
the schedule or compelled to read every verse; the schedule is simply a guide
to help you pace yourself. The important thing is that you are learning the
gospel individually and as a family.

Discussing insights
from your personal study is not only a good way to teach others, but it also
helps strengthen your understanding of what you have read.

not only inspire us but also lead us to change the way we live. Listen to what
the Spirit prompts you to do as you read, and then commit to act on those
promptings.
Ideas to Improve Your Family Scripture Study
Ideas to Improve Your Family Scripture Study
Regular family
scripture study is a powerful way to help your family feel the influence of the
Holy Ghost and learn the gospel.
As you make scripture
study an important part of your family life, you will help your family members
come closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and build their testimonies on
the foundation of God’s word.
Consider counseling
together about the following questions:
·
What can Bob and I do to encourage our family members to study the
scriptures?
·
What can Bob and I do to encourage gospel learning and discussion
with and from our family members?
·
How can we incorporate the principles we are learning in the New
Testament in everyday teaching moments with our children, grandchildren and
others?
Home, and
family, is the ideal place for gospel learning. Be creative, since we don’t all
live together.
Consider
some of the following ideas to enhance your family scripture study.
Use

try to learn the music your grandchildren are learning, and follow the Spirit

your family, and invite family members to memorize it by repeating it daily or

Find objects that relate to the gospel principles
in the scripture passages you are reading as a family. Invite family members to

Let family members take turns choosing a topic
that the family will study together. Use the Topical Guide, the Bible
Dictionary, or the Guide to the
Scriptures.

Read a few verses as a family, and then allow
time for family members to draw something that relates to what you read. Spend
time discussing one another’s drawings.

are experiencing individually and as a family.
President
Russell M. Nelson said: “I promise that as you diligently work to remodel
your home into a center of gospel learning, over time your Sabbath
days will truly be a delight. Your children
will be excited to learn and to live the Savior’s teachings, and the influence
of the adversary in your life
and in your home will
decrease. Changes in your family will be dramatic and sustaining” (“Becoming
Exemplary Latter-day Saints,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov.
2018, 113).
