NT Come Follow Me 11

NT Come Follow Me Lesson 11

Introduction:

“These Twelve Jesus Sent Forth”

People came to Jesus to be healed. They came for the food. They came for the miracles. Why do you follow Jesus? These are important stories. We want to be with those who make us feel good and elevate us. That’s okay. We need that. Afterwards, we need to be like Jesus and help bring others to Him, so He can lead us all back to the Father.

Matthew 9:36 Jesus is the Shepherd that we all need. He wants us to become undershepherds to Him.

Matthew 9:37 After serving in the Stake as the Just Serve specialist, I know the laborers are few. It’s hard for us to leave our comfort zones, but that is what is needed and required, for our own salvation and to help others gain theirs through Faith in Jesus Christ as well.

Matthew 10:1, 6 The Twelve are and were called to gather Israel. We have been commissioned to assist in the gathering on both sides of the veil.

Matthew 10:7  The time is NOW. The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.

Personal Study: “Be not afraid, only believe.”

Mark 5:23 Jairus had faith that Jesus could heal his daughter. Even though she died, he still healed her. He brought her back to life. Remember it is never too late for faith.

Mark 5:25–34 The woman who had an issue of blue 12 years, touched the hem of Jesus’s garment, and through faith she was healed.

What things in your life need healing or seem beyond repair? Seek the Lord’s help and guidance. He is waiting to bless you. He wants you to succeed.

Mark 5: 34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

Drawing the Power of Jesus Christ into Our Lives
If I reach upward for the Savior to help me with the same intensity as a drowning person, He will be there to assist and save me and show me the way.

Personal Study: The Lord gives His servants power to do His work.

How can I find access to His power in the work that I do?

2 Corinthians 6:1–10 I need to praise the Lord in all things both good and bad: in sicknesses, afflictions, when fasting. I need to practice kindness and be long-suffering. I need pure and to learn His word and His will.

Doctrine and Covenants 121:34–46 I need to turn to the Lord with all my heart and care far less for the things of this world. I need to be virtuous and to develop charity. I need to love people genuinely and learn to treat them as Jesus treats me. If I do these things, He will give me more power to serve Him and His children, and to develop my talents to be able to do so.

See chart below in Matthew Chapter 10 reading.

Articles of Faith 1:6

Apostle Apostle=one sent forth.

The calling of an Apostle is to be a special witness of the name of Jesus Christ in all the world, particularly of His divinity and of His bodily resurrection from the dead (Acts 1:22D&C 107:23).

Personal Study: When I am in the Lord’s service, He will inspire me with what to say.

Have you experienced having the Spirit give you the words you need to speak? In teaching? In prayer? In giving a blessing?

What will you do to prepare to have this experience more often?

Luke 12:11–12 The Holy Ghost will teach you in the same hour the things you need for the situations you find yourself in. Impressive.

Doctrine and Covenants 84:85 How can I more fully treasure up continually the words of life? If I am reading the word of God, pondering, praying, seeking and serving; then, the Lord will bless me with the portion I need whenever I need it. I have to be in tune, and I have to want to do His work.

Personal Study: What did Jesus mean by “I came not to send peace, but a sword”?

Finding Your Life Will you love your life for the gospel’s sake? No, even with loss of family relationships, ridicule, offense, and hurt, you will find your life if you follow Him.

Matthew 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Family Study: Jesus Blesses and Heals Us and Others when we have Faith in Him

“Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace and be free from thy plague.”

What things are plaguing you? Do you have faith to hold onto Jesus?

Mark 5:36 “Be not afraid, only believe”

Family Study: Meaning of Losing your Life and Finding your Life

Matthew 10:39 If we seek the Lord and all His righteousness, we will be blessed with eternal life, which is the greatest blessing of all.

So many are looking for love and happiness in all the wrong places. How are they lost?

When we follow the commandments and love others as Jesus loves us, we are fed by the Spirit and we are happy. We are His. We are numbered among His sheep. We are found. We are redeemed.

Family Study: How Do I Receive the Lord’s Servants?

Matthew 10:40 If I receive them, I receive Him. Do we reverence our Father? If we do, we will also have respect to His messengers.

How does obedience to the words of God’s servants (particularly the apostles) bring you closer to the Savior?

D&C 1:38 Whether by My own voice or the voice of my servants, it is the same.

Family Study: Don’t Look Back

Luke 9:61-62 When we have been converted and entered into covenants with our Father, it is important that we stay on the covenant path and not return to our former ways.

When Faith Endures

Listen to the Spirit. As you study, pay attention to your thoughts and feelings (see Doctrine and Covenants 8:2–3), even if they seem unrelated to what you are reading. Those impressions may be the very things God wants you to know and do.

Jesus forgives sins, heals a paralytic, and calls Matthew—Jesus eats with sinners, heals a woman who touches His garments, and raises Jairus’s daughter to life—He opens the eyes of the blind, casts out a devil, and preaches the gospel.

Vs 2-8 When you see miracles, praise God. When you and others are forgiven, thank your Heavenly Father for his grace and mercy. Be forgiving and choose to bless others as well.

Vs 12-13 as more sick and needy than you; but, ask God to heal both them and you.

Vs 14-15 Today is a day of fasting. What should we be praying, hoping, and fasting for. Jesus will come soon. Am I preparing for that day of feasting and rejoicing, when we can ever be with the Lord?

Vs 18-16 He healed the sick, the dead he raised.
Good works were His, His name be praised.
He healed the sick, the dead he raised.
Good works were His, His name be praised.

vs 28-30
When Jesus opens our eyes and our understanding, sometimes that revelation is a gift to us and meant for us alone. We do not have to broadcast those things which He means to be only for us.

Vs 32-33 Jesus cast out devils, healed people, and preserved life.

Vs 35-38 Most everyone wants goodness and happiness in their lives, but they need to be shown the way. Will you be a laborer in the harvest of the Lord?

Jesus instructs and empowers the Twelve Apostles and sends them forth to preach, minister, and heal the sick—Those who receive the Twelve receive the Lord.

As you read the commission Christ gave to His Apostles, you might receive impressions about the work the Lord wants you to do. A chart like the following could help you organize your thoughts:

Matthew 10

Impressions I receive

The Savior gave His disciples power.

God will give me the power I need to do my work.

Vs 1 The apostles were given the like power that Jesus had, the Melchizedek Priesthood, so that by faith in Jesus Christ they could also perform miracles.

I have also been given power to work under Priesthood authority to be a missionary of the Lord Jesus Christ, serving in San Bernardino. The Spirit can bless in me the work that I do.

Vs 5-10 Jesus told his apostles to go forth and preach the gospel and do the works He would have them do. They were to not worry about their physical needs. The Lord will take care of His servants through others who love Him and want to serve.

I must not be fearful to do the work that I am called to do. If I press forward with faith in Him,, the Lord will prepare the way for me that I can finish the history record for 2022 (and then 2023), and he will help me in my mission Just Serve assignment. The thing is, He knows and understands my struggles and limitations, but He will raise up others who want to assist and help in the work. People such as Sister Gledhill who helps me so much.

Vs 19-20 As we serve the Lord, He will give us His works to speak through His Spirit, so that we can testify of Him.

I know this is true. I've witnessed it, and I have experienced it.

Vs 31-33 As children of God we are worth so much. Don't be afriad to share your testimony, so others can come to know our Father and Jesus Christ our Savior too. They also are worth so much as you.

Vs 37-39 The first great commandment is to love the Lord. The second is to love our neighbors as ourselves. We also need to be conscience of our commitment to love the Lord and seek His will.

Vs 40-42 The little kindnesses that we show to one another are important to our salvation.

Jesus casts out a legion of devils, who then enter the swine—A woman is healed by touching Jesus’ clothes—He raises Jairus’s daughter from the dead.

Vs 15-16 Jesus commanded 2,000 devils to come out of a possessed men. He allowed them to enter the swine. The pigs chose to run into the sea and be drowned rather than be possessed.

Vs 18-19 Jesus wanted this man to have time with family and friends, in his right mind, physically and mentally and spiritually healthy.

Vs 23-43

Mark expounds upon the account. We see the woman who was healed, her feelings and knowing that she was immediately healed when she touched Jesus's clothes.

We see that Peter, James, and John and the girl's parents were the only ones allowed in the room when Jesus commanded the girl to arise and be alive again.

The Twelve are sent out—Jesus feeds the five thousand—Peter testifies of Christ—Jesus foretells His death and resurrection—He is transfigured on the mount—He heals and teaches.

Vs 1-6 Because of much unbelief in the world today, we may not see all the healing that happens from the apostles travels all over the world. But, those who publish peace and preach the gospel, invitiing others to come to Christ are offering to them the chance to repent and be cleansed by Jesus, being forgiven and being healed spiritually. This is also a miracle.

Vs 16-17 Jesus, who has created innumerable worlds, could also create food for the multitudes to eat.

Vs 18-20 Peter knew that Jesus was the Son of God by the power of the Holy Spirit, even though the Gift of the Holy Ghost had not been given yet.

Vs 22 This was the mission of the Son of God, to make an atonement of all of us and to be resurrected.

Vs 23-27 If we make covemants with the Father and follow Jesus from then on, we will be saved in the kingdom of God.

Some who heard his words are now translated beings waited for the time when Jesus shall come in His glory.

Vs 28-23
On the Mount of Transfiguration, Peter, James, and John heard the Father testify that Jesus is His Son. At this time, the were given the keys and authority to continue to administer the ordinances of the Church of Jesus Christ.

Vs 38-42 Jesus also taught that fasting and prayer are necessary before some healings can be performed. Men need the humility and the increased faith that come through fasting and prayer to combat evil spirits.

Vs 48 We are here to serve others, children and those in need. Jesus came to serve and not to be served. He wants us to be humble and teachable, like a little child. He wants us to lift those around us and not to seek our own glory

Vs 49-50 If others are doing good works through their faith, be thankful for that. There is power given to those who have faith in Jesus Christ in the manifestation of good works.

Vs 53-56 We shouldn't be quick to condemn. Jesus is not. We should desire repentance and forgiveness of all people. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news of salvation.

Vs 57-62 Are you willing and making yourself ready to follow Jesus in whatever He asks of you?
