NT Come Follow Me 12
Introduction:
“I Will Give You Rest”
Scripture Reading and Revelation
The Sabbath is meant to be a delight. The Jews (and some of
us) make it burdensome. Jesus, their Lord Jehovah, came to let us know He wants
us to find joy. If we yoke ourselves with Him our burdens will be light. Matthew 11:28–30
Personal Study: Jesus Christ will give me rest as I rely on
Him.
Why do we carry burdens in this life? What causes our burdens? Who will help to lift and carry our burdens and give us relief and peace? Mosiah 24
Elder David A. Bednar taught, “Making and keeping sacred covenants yokes us to and with the Lord Jesus Christ.” Bear Up Their Burdens with Ease
Can we expect to have everything feel easy? Can we expect to feel peace and joy even in our struggles?
Some questions from the lesson: How do my covenants yoke me to and with the Savior? What do I
need to do to come unto Christ? In what sense is the Savior’s yoke easy and His
burden light?
How does partaking of
the sacrament weekly, and always remembering Him yoke us with the Lord?

The Way
Personal Study: “Do well on the sabbath days.”
verse 7; see Hosea 6:6
“I will have mercy, and not sacrifice”
verse 8 “The Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day”
verse 12“It is lawful to do well on the sabbath days”
Mark 2:23–28 The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath. (Don’t tell Jesus what can be done on the Sabbath; ask Him and follow the Spirit.)
3:1–5 He healed the sick, the dead he raised; good works were His; His name be praised. Do what you can to relieve the sicknesses and sorrows of those around you all the time, even on the Sabbath, and maybe more especially on the Sabbath.
Personal Study: My words and actions reflect what is in my
heart.
What are your
intentions? Do you seek to look good to others and to find glory for yourself?
Or is your heart right before God? Are you seeking to love and serve Him and to
love and serve His children?
Matthew 12:34–37 Do you live by the words that you study, speak, and believe? Do you speak the truth and try to live righteously? Do you condemn others when you yourself are imperfect to some degree in the exact same things? Be humble and teachable. Don’t be a hypocrite.
Luke 11:33–44 For us to have light and share light, we need to hold up the One True Light, our Savior Jesus Christ. Our philosophies and preference won’t save us or anyone else; He alone can and will. Don’t be a whited sepulcher.
Alma 12:12–14 Who were are on the inside is important, not just who we present ourselves to be.
Doctrine and
Covenants 88:67–68 Work on keeping your eye single to the glory of
God. This is a hard task in this world. We need to decide daily to keep
covenants and do His will (over ours).
Family Study: Would You Like
Help Carrying Burdens?
How can serving others actually
help our own burdens be lighter? Why does the Lord want to take our burdens
upon Him? What does it take for us to allow that?
What is Christ’s yoke? How do we take it upon ourselves?
Matthew
11:28–30
Family Study: How is the
Sabbath and Day of Healing for You?
The Lord continues to offer
healing on the Sabbath days. How are you healed and restored by the Sabbath? Matthew 12:10–13
What good things can you do on
the Sabbath that will help bring healing, restoration, hope, and joy to others?
Family Study: Becoming Full of
Light
How can we bring the light of the gospel into our home and to our family and
friends?

Jesus
acclaims John as more than a prophet—The cities of Chorazin, Bethsaida, and
Capernaum are rebuked for unbelief—The Son reveals the Father—The yoke of
Christ is easy, and His burden is light.
Vs 2-6 Jesus's very works
revealed that He was the Christ. We can know this now, the same as people did
then, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
Vs 9-11 John was sent before Jesus to prepare the way.
John was great among all the prophets. But Jesus, and His works, are even
greater.
Vs 25-27 It is important for us to know Whom we worship and to
Whom we pray, and in Whose Name we worship.
We can have all things revealed unto us by the power of the Holy
Ghost.
Vs 28-30 With Jesus, we can accomplish whatsoever the
Father would have us to. He is there to help everyone of us.

Jesus
proclaims Himself Lord of the Sabbath and heals on the Sabbath day—He is accused
of casting out devils through the power of Beelzebub—He speaks of blasphemy
against the Holy Ghost and says that an evil and adulterous generation seeks
signs.
Vs 6-8 Jesus is Lord of the
Sabbath; He is the Giver of the Law. We can follow His example and do the works
which are good to do on the Sabbath Day, with the Holy Ghost as our guide.
Vs 10-13 Of course it is
lawful to bless and to heal on the Sabbath. These are good works that manifest
the mercies of God.
Vs 15 Jesus healed all
those who followed Him. Will you follow Him? He'll heal you.
Vs 21 How great a
responsibility to be of the House of Israel and also considered a Gentile. Do
you trust in Him? Are you proclaiming Him so that others will trust in Him and
be gathered into Israel?
Vs 22-23 The people had
long awaited the coming of the Messiah, and they recognized His works because
of the prophesies of Him.
Vs 24-33 These people knew that they were in the wrong, that they were
lying against light and truth. Jesus pointed that out; His works were good and
came from God.
Do not rationalize away what your spiritual senses know to be
true.
Vs 34-37 Warning to those who sought to condemn Jesus as
evil when they knew He was good.
Vs 39-40 Jonah's experience also was a testimony of the
coming of the resurrection. (Jesus was actually two nights dead, if I'm not
mistaken. Why is there a discrepancy here? I do not know. Does it matter? No. I
believe if the Resurrection and in my Resurrected Lord, Jesus the Christ.)
Vs 48-50

Jesus
gives the Lord’s Prayer—He discusses the casting out of devils—He acclaims
Himself as greater than Jonah and Solomon—He rebukes the Pharisees and says
that the blood of all the prophets may be required of their generation.
Vs 1 Have you sought the Lord's
help to learn how to pray?
Vs 2-3 The Lord's Prayer.
Show respect, reverence, and worship. Submit your will to the
Lord's. Ask for what you need for the day you are living in. Ask for
forgiveness, and make sure that you are forgiving everyone. Ask for help to
resist temptations and to do the work you are supposed to be doing. Ask for
help to avoid unnecessary distractions. Ask to be delivered from the things
that are binding you down.
Vs 5-10 We know that the Lord gives liberally to them
that ask of Him. We should do so for our friends as well, even when it is
inconvenient...like at midnight.
Vs 11-13 When
our children or grandchildren ask something of us, we want to offer them good
things. One of the best gifts our Father gives us is to have the Holy Spirit
with us. We need to ask.
Vs 17-23 Do
not oppose the work of the Lord. You know that the gospel is true and that the
good works manifest of its truth. Because more a part of it. Be a gatherer and
not a divider.
Vs 28 Keep the
word of God. You don't keep it by just holding on to it, but by living it and
sharing it.
Vs 30-32 Testimonies
of many people who lived before and after Jesus Christ witness of His divinity.
They cannot be ignored, and the works of the Lord's ministry surely testify
that it is He of whom the prophets had written.
Vs 33-36 If we are true to Jesus Christ, the One True Light, our light
will shine and manifest of Him and lead others to Him.
Judge not by outward appearance. There are many noble people, who
are children of the most High God, who are currently destitute.
Judge yourself by how clean you are. What are your thoughts and
desires? What are your goals? Who do you desire to serve?
Are you forgiving others? Are you developing patience with
yourself and others? Are you living charitably?
