NT Come Follow Me 14

NT Come Follow Me Lesson 14

Introduction:

Peter had enough faith in the Lord to try to walk on the water. What about you? Are you accepting His invitations and challenges to set out of your comfort zones and to do something challenging? Have faith enough to know that He loves you, and He absolutely wants things to work out for you.

Will you get things in order that you need to get in order so that you can go back to school? So that you can go and visit Eliza. Pray more. Ask for His way.

Personal Study: Jesus Christ honors His Father.

Pay attention to the relationship that Heavenly Father and Jesus have when you read John 5:16-47. How can you strengthen your own relationship with Heavenly Father?

John 17

The Grandeur of God

Personal Study: The Savior can magnify my humble offerings to accomplish His purposes.

Instead of concentrating on your inadequacies, concentrate on the Lord’s might and mercy. He can multiple our efforts for the good of others and for our own good as well.

Remember when you do one small thing, just showing some initiative, the Lord blessed you to accomplish so much more.

Divine Discontent

Personal Study: Jesus Christ invites me to set aside my fears and doubts and exercise faith in Him.

Matthew 14:22–33 Mark 6:45–52 John 6:15–21 Jesus who can calm the troubled seas can also walk on them. Just remember with Him all things are possible, even if they are not expedient for us. We might not walk on water, but we should have faith to do what the Lord would have us do.

Be like Peter; be like Nephi 1 Nephi 3:7 Can you step outside a boat to walk on water? Can you build a boat for your families to cross the ocean? If the Lord asks you to, He can help you do it. Oh ye of little faith.

Personal Study: As a disciple of Jesus Christ, I must be willing to believe and accept the truth, even when it is hard to do.

John 6:48 When Jesus told his disciples that He is the bread of life, He also said that they needed to eat of it. They didn’t understand what He was saying, and many departed from following Him. John 6:60

Jesus is the Bread of Life and the Living Water. We have felt that, we have tasted of the goodness, we’ve had faith in Him and a witness from the Spirit. When we are disturbed by something new, how should we react? If we leave Jesus, there is absolutely no where for us to go. John 6:68–69

Hold on to your faith and seek understand. And trust in the Lord.

To Whom Shall We Go?

Family Study: How Many Loaves and Fishes does it take to feed five thousand men (plus women and children)?

Matthew 14:15–21

When has the Lord multiplied your efforts? Through a priesthood blessing Bob gave me, the Lord blessed me with a greater capacity to love, when I was having challenges with parenting.

Family Study: The Shipped was tossed to and fro, but Jesus said to fear not.

Matthew 14:22–33

How can you learn to calm your fears when the Spirit has already comforted you to quiet your fears? How can you gain the trust to keep your eyes on the Savior and not on the storm? How can you learn to spend your time practicing those things that tend to build faith instead of turning to trivial pursuits for escape?

Family Study: How can the Lord make us whole?

John 5:1–16

Family Study: How are we nourished by the food we eat?

John 6:35 Why is Jesus the Bread of Life? What does that mean for us?

How do we eat the bread of life? How does faith in Jesus Christ nourish you?

Jesus sends forth the Twelve—John the Baptist is beheaded by Herod—Our Lord feeds the five thousand, walks on the water, and heals multitudes.

Vs 1-5 Acknowledge the Diety in everyone. Jesus should be accepted everywhere. And we should accept those who are in our families and communities and not judge people to be of little worth, not ever.

Vs 7-9 Missionaries are to leave behind the things of the world and only take what is necessary for their service.

Vs 22-26 Don't make blanket promises when you have no idea what you are promising to. It is foolishness.

Vs 30-32 After John's death, Jesus and His apostles resorted to a private place to rest.

Vs 33-34 His followers found out and got there before Jesus and the apostles. He had compassion on them and taught them...then He miraculous fed them (in verses following).

Vs 49-51 When you feel encompassed by darkness and the cares of the world. When your anxious, and your anxiety feels like guilt, turn to Him; He will offer you peace, calm, reassurance, and mercy. Look to Him in every thought. Doubt not. Fear not.

Pay attention to how the Lord made people whole? How has He made you whole? John 5:1-16

Vs 6-8 Our faith needs to be firmly placed on the Lord Jesus Christ and the doctrine He teaches. We can be made whole through faith on Him and repentance.

Vs 16-24 Jesus confirmed what they thought and did not deny it. He is the Son of God. Our Father has made His Son equal to Him and commited judgment into His hand.

Vs 25-32 Jesus's authority is from God. He has proper judment. He has power over death. Through Him all will be resurrected. He is honest and fair.

Jesus feeds the five thousand—He walks on the sea—He is the living manna sent from God—Salvation is gained by eating living bread—Jesus explains how men eat His flesh and drink His blood—Peter testifies that Jesus is the Messiah.

Vs 5-13 I like this account of Jesus feeding the multitude. He truly had the power to do it. And His power can be with us as we also try to feed others. I know that my parents had miracles serving on their missions, feeding the hungry elders out of their own meager store. My mom mixed up pancakes and they were filled.

Mom also did this when we were very young. She wanted to make sure Dad paid tithing on the gross. Even the grocery money was shorter then, she mixed up pancakes for us children. Someone who was going back to the states brought her over a huge amount of flour, because they didn't want it to go bad.

Jesus asks us to take no thought for the morrow, but he also asks us to exercise faith every day.

Vs 14-15
People recognized that Jesus must be the Christ, but they didnt' quite get what His mission is.

Vs 32-40 Jesus truly is the bread from heaven. If we believe in Him and on Him, and if we make covenants with Him and His Father, we will find the spiritual nourishment that can sanctify us and make us holy. We can be saved through His grace.

Vs 47-51 This a a spiritual oneness that we can develop with Christ by partaking of the sacrament and keeping His commandment.

Is it a hard saying? If taken literally, it is an odd saying, even now. We need to understand the Lord's role in our lives and our utter dependence upon Him for our salvation.

Vs 67-69 If both believe and are sure, then keep following Jesus. If doubts ever arise, keep believing and holding on to the sure witnesses you've already received. After knowing the true Savior, there is no where else to go to be spiritually fed and gain salvation.
