NT Come Follow Me 17
Introduction:
“What Shall I Do to Inherit
Eternal Life?”
My neighbor is anyone who needs my help? How willing am I to help? Think of all the people that you meet every day. Will you pray for more direction, so that the Lord can help you develop a desire to serve and to know how to serve?
You are to forgive always, every time it is asked of you, and even when it is not. That does not mean that you need to associate with those who purposefully seek your harm.
Luke 10:29–37
The Good Samaritan
Matthew 18:4, 21–22
Until 70x7. If you are forgiving, you are not keeping score.
Personal Study: I must forgive others if I am to receive
forgiveness from the Lord.
verse 22 Work on developing a Christ-like attitude towards forgiving, actually towards your brothers and sisters. You don’t want to impede anyone else’s progress or your own.
Forgiveness Will Change Bitterness to Love
We do not need to provide opportunity for people to
continually trespass against us. But as we guard against sin, we need to make
sure that we are developing a loving and understanding heart. Following is
something I shared on Facebook yesterday:
This is what I wrote:
I believe being unforgiving and unyielding is one of the most toxic choices I
can make.
That said, sometimes the most Christian and forgiving thing
I can do is leave some topics, situations, and people alone, both for their
healing and mine.
This is what the post said:
Just remember, we are all toxic. Every single human being is capable of being
toxic, has been, currently is at times. But some people have the desire to be
educated on it and do better, while others will ignore any accountability and
continue to act the same way. Pay attention.
I really like this, because so many people are quick to cut off family and
friends instead of working things out. This is not the New Law of Love the
Savior gave us.
Personal Study: Who are the Seventy?
Exodus 24:1; Numbers 11:16
The Seventy were Elders of Israel in earlier times, when Moses led the people.
Luke 10:1–20
Jesus also called the Seventy to help assist the Apostles in His work. “Jesus Christ “appointed other seventy,” in
addition to His Twelve Apostles, to witness of Him, preach His gospel, and
assist Him in His work. This pattern continues in the restored Church.
Seventies are called to assist the Twelve in their mission as special witnesses
of Jesus Christ to all the world.”
Doctrine and
Covenants 107:25–26, 33–34, 97
Personal Study: To obtain eternal life, I must love God and
love my neighbor as myself. Luke 10:25, 29
“What shall I do to
inherit eternal life?” and “Who is my neighbour?”
See also Luke 9:52–54; 17:11–18; John 4:9; 8:48 Some of the thinking towards Samaritans, those who married outside the covenant.
The Savior chose a Samaritan to teach the story of “Who is My Neighbor?” We should not allow race, education, position, or any other categorization keep us from loving our brothers and sisters, especially when they are in need of our help. We can picture the Savior in both the Samaritan and the injured person. If we treat even the least of these our brethren with kindness, it is the same as if we have done so unto the Lord. Mosiah 2:17
Videos: “Parable of the Good Samaritan” and “A Good Samaritan”
Go, and do thou likewise.
Personal Study: We choose “that good part” by making daily
choices that lead to eternal life.
Luke 10:38–42 How can you choose that good part?
The Beauty of
Holiness We need to take time
to have communion with the Spirit, to seek to worship at the Savior’s feet.
Also, we need to be present in the minute. If we have guests, we should visit
with them and make them our important focus.
verse 42
What is the needful thing that you need to do?
Family Study: Become Like a Little
Child
What attributes do children have that we should seek to develop?
Mosiah 3:19 For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.
Family Study: Work
things out with those you’ve offended, or who’ve offended you.
Matthew 18:15 Moreover if thy brother
shall trespass against thee, go and tell him
his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou
hast gained thy brother.
Family Study: Forgive
others and be fair and merciful.
Matthew 18:21–35 Forgive others, even as the Lord has forgiven
you.
Family Study: The Good Samaritan Luke 10:25–37
Care for others, even
when it is inconvenient. Be in tune and available to follow the promptings of
the Spirit and choose to serve.
Family Study: Choose
to Put People First
Luke 10:38–42 Build
relationships with others and with the Lord. Live the first two great
commandments. Be present. Be a present wife, daughter, mother, sister, friend,
disciple.

you aren't in the wrong.
Vs 10-14 Whether your understanding is greater or
lesser, be humble enough to just love your fellowmen. Pursue peace and try to
right wrongs, even when you perceive that you aren't in the wrong.
Vs 32-33 Always retain in
remembrance the remission of your own sins, and extend that grace to others. We
are all indebted to the Lord who atoned for us all. Let's not therefore, who
have been made free, inslave one another.

Jesus

heart will recognize through the Spirit of truth the message and the messenger.
Vs 23-24 This was true
