NT Come Follow Me 18
Introduction:
““I Am the Good Shepherd”
John 10:24, 27 “My sheep hear my voice,” He said, “and I know
them, and they follow me.”
Those who seeking
truth, recognize that Jesus’s words and teachings are good and that there is
power in His words.
Personal Study: As I live the truths taught by Jesus Christ,
I will come to know they are true.
John 7:14–17
If we do our Father’s will, we will know that what Jesus teaches is from God,
and that God sent Him.
Personal Study: The Savior’s mercy is available to all.
The Savior’s full mercy
is available to the repentant. As to those who “caught” the woman in the act of
adultery, we don’t know which man was with her, whether it was a setup, whether
they were trying to catch Jesus in a snare, or what the motive was. The Lord
delivered the law to Moses, “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” He will never
condone the breaking of these commandments, but he did not condemn the woman.
He forgave her.
In the JST we find that the woman repented and followed Jesus from then on. She
abided in Him. ‘And the
woman glorified God from that hour, and believed on his name’ [see John 8:11,
footnote c].
Have you felt the Lord’s mercy, when you could have been
condemned?
Have you self-righteously condemned others, when you should have shown mercy?
John 8:7 He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

Personal Study: If we have faith, God can manifest Himself in
our afflictions.
John 9:1–3 The challenges that we are born with, or
those that are a part of living in a fallen world, are not condemnations for
evil done by parents or children. Through them, the works of God can be made
manifest. This can happen through our faith, through blessings and miracles,
and through how we treat one another.
Personal Study: Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd.
John 10
I Am the Good Shepherd
Verse 3:
“He calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them.”
Verse 11:
He “giveth his life for the sheep.”
Verse 16:
“There shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”
verses 7–9
Jesus is the Gate by which we enter heaven; He is the door to the pastures, and
He protects His sheep.
verse 10
If we enter into covenants with Him and follow Him, we are given a more
abundant life.
verse 14
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and
am known of mine.
Jesus knows my strengths and weaknesses, what I do well and what are my flaws;
and He loves me. He pleads for my discipleship and He leads me.
verse 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
I recognize the Savior’s voice in the scriptures. We hear His voice in The Doctrine and Covenants. I recognize His voice in the testimonies of the prophets and apostles and through the power of the Holy Ghost. He has spoken to my mind and heart, and in my spiritual hearing, to my spiritual ears. During my deepest sorrow, He told me, “Thy sins are forgiven thee.” And I have been blessed.
Psalm 23 The Lord is My Shepherd
Ezekiel 34 The Lord is the True Shepherd. Be a good under
shepherd. Be an active part of the gathering!
Woe be to
the shepherds of
Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks?
Alma 5:37–39
38 Behold, I say unto you, that the good shepherd doth call you;
yea, and in his own name he doth call you, which is the name of Christ; and if
ye will not hearken unto the voice of the good shepherd, to the name by which
ye are called, behold, ye are not the sheep of the good shepherd.
3 Nephi
15:21–16:5 21 Other sheep I have which are
not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and
there shall be one fold, and one shepherd….5 And then will I gather them
in from the four quarters of the earth; and then will I fulfil the covenant which the Father hath made unto all
the people of the house of Israel.

Can Make Us Free
John 8:31–36
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If
ye continue in my word, then are ye
my disciples indeed; 32 And ye
shall know the truth, and the truth shall make
you free.
34 Jesus answered them, Verily,
verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
36 If the Son therefore shall make
you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Moroni 7:11 We are a servant to the one whom we choose to follow.

Jesus’
kinsmen do not believe—He teaches His Father’s doctrine and proclaims His
divine sonship—Truth may be known through obedience—Jesus offers living water
to all people—The people have various opinions concerning Him.
Vs 14-18 Jesus spoke
with power and authority that He received from His Father.
Vs 22-24 We need to guard
against hypocrisy. Caring for another's well-being is a righteous work for the
Sabbath
Vs 28-29 If we know the Father, we will recognize the
Son.
Vs 31 The people believed on Him because of His
miracles. They had never seen anything like that before.
Vs 37-40 Jesus is the Living Water. Through Him we have
life. The Spirit witnesses of Him.
It was for these people’s
benefit that the Gift of the Holy Ghost had not been given yet, because it is
very difficult to find forgiveness if one sins against the Holy Ghost. .
Vs 41-42 Some rationalized that a Galilean could not be
the Christ, not knowing that Jesus was born in Behleman and was of David's
line.
Vs 50-51 Nicodemus defended Jesus.

The woman
taken in adultery is brought before Christ—Christ is the Light of the world—He
again proclaims that He is the Messiah—The true children of Abraham believe in
Christ—Jesus says, Before Abraham was I, Jehovah.
Vs 6-9 Take time to think things
through and to have the Spirit with you when you speak.
Vs 10-11 The Lord is quick
to forgive. Be quick to repent.
Vs 12 Jesus proclaimed the
truth, that He is the Light of the World. He has both the Father and the Holy
Ghost to testify of Him, plus all the prophets, disciples, and angels in
heaven.
Vs 14-18 Jesus referred to His Father's witness of Him, appealing to the
Law of Witnesses.
Vs 19 The religious leaders of the time were evil. They did not want to
recognize truth. If they believed in God the Father and in the prophets, they
would have recognized Jesus as the Christ.
Vs 23 -32 If we believe on Jesus, who was sent by our Father in Heaven,
we can be heirs to eternal life through Him.
Vs 53-58 Jesus
proclaims here that He is Jehovah, when He says, Before Abraham was, "I
Am."

Jesus, on
the Sabbath, heals a man born blind—The Jews accuse Him of Sabbath violation—He
lectures them on spiritual blindness.
How are the works of God manifest in the life of
the man born blind? In your life, and during your afflictions?
Vs 2-7 Jesus can heal us all of our blindness, because
He is the Light of the World.
Vs 15-17 How is it that
one can see such miracles and still remain so blind?
Vs 24-33 The man born blind now had spiritual sight as well as physical
sight. Yes, he did attempt to teach the Pharisees, but they were proud and
unteachable.
It is a marvelous thing, that one born blind can be healed merely
by believing in Jesus Christ and doing what he asks.
Vs 35-38 Jesus accepted the man who was cast out because
of testimony concerning his healing. When Jesus made Himself known unto him,
the man believed and worshipped Him.

Jesus is
the Good Shepherd—He gained power over death from His Father—He promises to
visit His other sheep—He proclaims, I am the Son of God.
Vs 7-15 Jesus gave His
life to redeem His sheep. If we listen to His voice and follow Him, we will
become His sheep, and He will open the gate to His pasture.
Vs 16 Jesus took His
gospel to the sheep around the world. His disciples are still spreading His
word and gathering His elect (or His sheep).
Vs 17-18 The Father has
infinite love for His Son, because He was willing to take upon Himself the
transgressions of us all and redeem us. Therefore, the Father gave Him power
over death, both for Himself; and, through Him, for all of us.
Vs 24-30 The Jews asked Jesus to plainly tell them if he was the Christ. He
plainly did, and for that they wished to stone Him.
Those who believe on Him, know His voice and follow HIm. We will
be given eternal life and never perish, if we are His Sheep.
Jesus and His Father are one. He is truly the Son of God.
