NT Come Follow Me 20

NT Come Follow Me Lesson 20

Introduction:

“What Lack I Yet?”

Matthew 19:16 “What good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?”

Matthew 19:20 “What lack I yet?”

Do you trust in the Lord, to do what He asks you to do?
Have you received the kingdom of God like a little child?
Luke 18:17;  3 Nephi 9:22

Personal Study: Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God.

How does your knowledge of the Father’s plan of salvation affect the way you think and feel about marriage?

Marriage: Read through again with Bob.
The Family: A Proclamation to the World

Personal Study: Did Jesus teach that divorce is never acceptable or that divorced people should not remarry?

Divorce Talk by President Dallin H. Oaks:

Heavenly Father intends for the marriage relationship to be eternal. However, God also understands that divorce is sometimes necessary. President Oaks explained that the Lord “permits divorced persons to marry again without the stain of immorality specified in the higher law. Unless a divorced member has committed serious transgressions, he or she can become eligible for a temple recommend under the same worthiness standards that apply to other members.”

Personal Study: If I ask the Lord, He will teach me what I need to do to inherit eternal life.

Matthew 19:20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
The Lord will bless us as we turn to Him and strive to change and overcome.
Ether 12:27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.

What Lack I Yet?
Then Jesus Beholding Him Loved Him

Personal Study: Everyone can receive the blessing of eternal life, no matter when they accept the gospel.

What matters is that when we accept the gospel, we stick with Jesus and keep our covenants. We put our energy to the plow and don’t look back.

The Laborers in the Vineyard

Personal Study: I should trust God’s mercy, not my own righteousness.

How can you be more like the publican and less like the Pharisee? What attitudes and feelings do you have towards God, yourself, and others?

Philippians 4:11–13 Develop gratitude and humility in all circumstances. Jesus is the One who helps you overcome.
Alma 31:12–23 Erecting yourself a holy stand does not make you holy.
32:12–16 Be thankful for those experiences that have prompted you to be humble. Seek to develop humility by choice.

Family Study: Be as Little Children

I Think When I Read That Sweet Story

Mark 10:15 What doest it mean to “receive the kingdom of God as a little child”?

Family Study: Trust in God and Not in Material Wealth

Trust in God, seek after Him and His righteousness (always), and if you become rich, use your riches to bless others and to build His kingdom.

Mark 10:23–24 How hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

JST “With men that trust in riches, it is impossible; but not impossible with men who trust in God and leave all for my sake, for with such all these things are possible” (Joseph Smith Translation, Mark 10:26 [in Mark 10:27, footnote a]).

Family Study: Enter the Race

Whether we are hired early in the day or come near the end, we can all enjoy the blessings of eternal life, if we engage in His work.

Family Study: The Greatest of All is the Servant of All

Matthew 20:27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.

Jesus teaches about marriage and divorce—Eternal life is for those who keep the commandments—The Twelve Apostles will judge the house of Israel.

Vs 2He healed entire multitudes.

Matthew 19:3–9 What are the Lord’s views on marriage?

Vs 3-6 We should not be looking for trivial reasons to end marriages. Entering into covenants is not trivial, neither is dissolving them.

Vs 13-15 If we love our Father and our Savior, we should follow Jesus's example and be welcoming and loving to little children. They both look to us for guidance and nourishment; also for love. And we need to be more like them and seek after the Lord's blessings.

Vs 16-22 If we keep the commandments, do we know why? Let us strive to develop the love of the Lord in our hearts and seek to invite others to have the same experience. What is it that you are holding onto, that you need to let go of?

Vs 23-26 If we are holding onto worldly treasure at the expense of eternal life, we are spending our money or our time, our desires or our efforts on the wrong thing. We need the atonement to change and progress, and we need to follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost.

Vs 27-30 If we forsake the world and follow Jesus, we will inherit everlasting life with Him.

Vs 11-16 We should desire the salvation of every soul. Put your shoulder to the will, do your part and invite others to help build the kingdom. We're all in this together, not for a penny, but for eternal life.

Vs 23 Our Father will be fair, merciful, and just. We do not need a higher seat in Their house. Jesus came so that we could all be joint-heirs with Him, if we are willing to keep our covenants.

Vs 25-28 Do you seek to life yourselve above others, but through Jesus help to lift others.

Vs 30-34 If we ask in faith, we will be given; even that our blindness can be taken away.

Jesus teaches the higher law of marriage—He blesses little children—Jesus counsels the rich young man, foretells His own death, and heals blind Bartimæus.

Mark 10:2–12 What are the Lord’s views on marriage?

Vs 6-9Families have always been meant to be united and eternal. Men and women have always been meant to be married and to learn to get along.

Vs 13-16 Suffer the Little Children to Come; learn from little children, be humble, and desire righteousness like they do. Be quick to seek the Lord.

Mark 10:17–22 Note the young man’s faithfulness and sincerity. How did the Savior feel about Him?

Vs 17-18 God is good, and so is the Son of God. This man must have recognized that good in Jesus.

Vs 19-21 We should never lay our hearts upon riches, but place our love, devotion, and the affections of our heart on the Lord Jesus Christ. How are you seeking His kingdom?

Vs 24-25 Where do you put your trust? This is something you need to work on. God has always taken care of your needs. With the things that demand our money, we need to learn to trust that God will take care of our needs and turn our worries, concerns, and doubts over to Him. We need to seek His will and do His works.

Vs 26-27 Don’t you want to be saved, Heidi, from the grief of worrying about debts and expenditures? Don’t you want to know that it is right? Can’t you trust that this is possible? With God all things are possible.

Vs 32-34 Jesus continued to prepare His disciples for what was going to happen.

Vs 43-45 Don’t worry about those who may be positioned better than you, or those who might seek more favors than you. It doesn’t matter. You are here now at this time and place to serve the Lord and to serve His children.

Vs 51-52 When you can’t see how something is going to work, do you turn to the Lord. His faith can heal and you help you see. Stop wandering around like a blind woman. Just take it to the Lord.

Jesus gives the parables of the unjust judge and the Pharisee and publican—He invites little children to come unto Him and teaches how to gain eternal life—He tells of His coming death and resurrection and gives sight to a blind man.

Vs 4-8 Importune God continually for the things that you need. He is your Father and the Most Just of all Judges. He will help you, supply for your needs, and deliver you.

Vs 10-14 Do you go in pretense to God and just really pray to yourself, boasting about how good you are, or desire to be? Or do you go before God humble and acknowledge your faults and your sins? Whom do you think God respects more?

Vs 15-17 Jesus loves the infants and little children. Pray for those who have turned away infants and not wanted them because they felt inconvenienced. If they don’t strip themselves of pride and become like the infants the refused, they won’t enter into heaven.

Vs 18-22 Do you put limits on what you are willing to do to follow Jesus. Keep the commandments. Do your best. And if you are ready to ask what else you can do, make yourself ready to do what the Lord asks.

Vs 27 Learn to trust that God can do infinitely more than man can do or comprehend.

Vs 28-30 The sacrifices that we make for the Lord and His kingdom will be made up for us over and over again.

Vs 31-34 Jesus told them of His upcoming death and resurrection, but they did not yet understand.

Vs 38-43 This man, knowing Jesus was passing by, cried out to Him to help him. Jesus restored His sight and also told him, Thy faith hath saved thee. We can all find salvation through Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
