NT Come Follow Me 23
Introduction:
“In Remembrance”
Matthew 26:26–28 We eat the bread and drink the water in
remembrance of Jesus. “I’ll never
forget what He did for me.” “I’ll never forget how He rescued me when I cried
out for help.” “I’ll never forget His commitment to me and my commitment to
Him—the covenant we have made.”
Personal Study: “She is come … to anoint my body to the
burying.”
Matthew 26:12 Mary knew who Jesus was and what He was about to do.
13 She is always remember because of the kindness she showed to Jesus.
John 12:1–8 When we have a prompting to do something kind, we should act on it. “Never repress a good deed.”
Personal Study: “Lord, is it I?”
None of the 11 there wanted to be the one that betrayed the
Savior. Judas was sorely grieved that he had done so.
Be careful to always reverence Jesus and Honor His name.
Personal Study: The sacrament is an opportunity to remember
the Savior.
Can you imagine how the apostles felt as the Lord shared His
sacrament with them? How do you feel?
Matthew 26:26–29 and Mark 14:22–25
His authorized servants are extending these same blessing to you each week.
We promise to always remember Him. Can you mention specifics about the Savior that you remember? What things are the most important to remember?
Moroni 4:3 Sacrament prayer for the bread.
Luke 22:7–39;
3 Nephi 18:1–13; Doctrine and
Covenants 20:76–79

Remember Him”
Personal Study: The Savior is our example of humbly serving
others.
Jesus set the example
of being a humble servant by washing His disciples’ feet. What can you do?
John 13:1–17 Jesus willingly even washed the feet of the disciple who betrayed Him? It’s the same for us. He died for each of us, even though we haven’t always been right before Him. He’s provided the way for us to be clean.
Luke 22:24–27
Stop worrying about being the best at something. Be humble and be Christ’s
servant. The Father will make you great in due course, if you work on having a
broken heart and a contrite spirit.
Personal Study: My love for others is a sign that I am a true
disciple of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 22:39 Love your neighbor as yourself.
John 13:34 Love each other as Jesus loves you.
Christians are developing Charity. Others will see that. Make love the defining characteristic of your discipleship.
Family Study: The
Importance of the Sacrament
Matthew 26:26–29; Mark 14:22–25.
Passing the
Sacrament How can I prepare to be reverent and allow for
sanctification to happen?
Family Study: The
Importance of Hymns in our Preparation
Matthew 26:30 How might singing a hymn have been a blessing to Jesus and His Apostles at that time? How are hymns a blessing to us?
Family Study: Our Actions Show What We Value and Believe
John 13:1–17 What
truths did the Savior teach by His actions?
13:17 How does applying gospel truths in your life bring you happiness?
Family Study: When I
treat others with love, people can see that I am following Jesus.

Jesus is
anointed—He keeps the Passover and institutes the sacrament—He suffers in
Gethsemane, is betrayed by Judas, and is taken before Caiaphas—Peter denies
that he knows Jesus.
Vs 7-16 The kindness
of the woman is typical of womanhood. She had the sensitivity to know what she
should do prior to Jesus's offering in Gethsamane and sacrifice on Calvary.
Some were offended at
the woman and by her using precious ointment on Jesus, because they lacked
understanding.
Vs 22 We all hope we
will never betray Him. How can we make certain? Take the sacrament worthily
every week, always remember Him, and live in gratitude for His Atoning
sacrifice.
Vs 26-36 Passover.
This ordinance would be in memory of Him and in covenant with Him for this time
forth.
Hymns are an important
part of worship, praise, and unity.
Vs 38 How often do we ask for the Spirit to be with
us, for Jesus to help us? Are we ready and willing to help Him and to suffer
with Him?
Vs 40 Sacrament meeting lasts one hour. OUr you tarrying with Jesus and
watching with Him?
Vs 63-65 The high priest wasn't really interested in knowing if Jesus was the
Christ; he was interested in catching him in words that he could twist so as to
bear false witness against Him.

Jesus is
anointed with oil—He eats the Passover, institutes the sacrament, suffers in
Gethsemane, and is betrayed by Judas—Jesus is falsely accused, and Peter denies
that he knows Him.
Vs 3 This woman anointed
Jesus's head with oil.
Vs 6-9 Have you done what you could? When you have a
thought of serving someone, do it. Let it be spoken of you, she did what she
could.
(It was Camilla E. Kimball
who said, Never supress a generous thought.)
Vs 18-20 It must have been
hard for all the disciples to think it might be them. Judas already had agreed
to betray him, which is very sad.
Vs 22-26 Are you preparing to partake of the sacrament
worthily each week? You should. The hymn should help you direct your thoughts
to the Savior and our Father's gift in sending Him for us.
Vs 33-36 The weight that
Jesus was experiencing is more than any human can even phathom. His own
disciples could not bear to look on.
Vs 37-38 Dedicate the
sacrament meeting hour to the Lord. Prepare for that.
Vs 44 What was Judas's comprehension? Jesus was being
led away to be killed. Whose safety was he concerned about?
Vs 61-62 I am so thankful that Jesus will come again, to put to silence all
those who have ever opposed Him (and would not repent).

Jesus
washes the feet of the Twelve—He identifies Judas as His betrayer—He commands
them to love one another.
Vs 4-17 The custom of the Jews
(according to their law) was that their servants had to wash their dirty feet.
Jesus thus fulfilled their law (according to the Joseph Smith translation).
His law is a Higher Law. We are not to set ourselves above each
other. When Bob began working at Western U, Dr. Koebel wanted all the dental
faculty to know that they were to treat everybody with dignity, the janitors
the same as the professors.
This is what Jesus was teaching too. Though, as the Savior of the
world, He is greater than us all, He came to this world to save us and set an
example for us at His Father's bidding. We are all brothers and sisters and
children of God.
He came here to help us all return home through love and grace,
and we need to also extend that love to each other.
We need to become humble and meek, like little children, if we are
to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Vs 26-27 Did Judas find further offense in being singled
out or revealed to the others? I know that the Lord didn't invite Satan to
enter into Judas. Judas had already bargained to betray Jesus.
Vs 31-35 Even though it is extremely sad what Judas did and what happened
to him, Jesus knew that He needed to be put to death for Judas and for all of
us.
He has been glorified in the resurrection the Father granted Him,
and through Him we can also be glorified.
If we learn to love each other as Jesus has loved us, we are His
discipels and will become like Him. His love for us is remarkable. Can I love
like that?
I need to stop being so petty, especially where money is
concerned. This is a lesson I am working on.
