NT Come Follow Me 30

NT Come Follow Me Lesson 30

Introduction:

“The Word of God Grew and Multiplied”

In both the ancient and modern Church, Jesus has guided His chosen leaders (see Amos 3:7Doctrine and Covenants 1:38). Continuing revelation is a vital sign of the true and living Church of Jesus Christ. Are we willing to accept continuing revelation like Peter was? Do you live “by every word of God” (Luke 4:4)? Revelation is ongoing in the gospel that is being restored to the earth. Articles of Faith 1:9

Personal Study: “God is no respecter of persons.”

Luke 3:8 What actually makes a person, or a people, to be accepted and chosen by God?

Acts 10:35 If we fear God and work righteousness, we are accepted with Him.

How do we know that Cornelius’s life was acceptable before God?

verse 34 What does it mean that God is not a respecter of persons?

1 Nephi 17:35 Behold, the Lord esteemeth all flesh in one; he that is righteous is favored of God.

Do you take the time to recognize the divinity in everyone, or do you struggle with feelings of superiority as one of God’s chosen. Remember we are to gather Israel, anyone who wants to come. Those who make and keep covenants with God become His covenant people. Those who are baptized (in the waters of Judah) become the blood of Israel.

1 Samuel 16:7 The Lord looketh on the heart: He did so with David, and He did so with Saul; and He does so with you.

2 Nephi 26:13, 33 God invites all of His children to come unto Him. Do we do the same?

Cornelius was righteous and prayed in faith. God sent Peter to his household, because it was a household of faith. Cornelius was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ.

Personal Study: Heavenly Father teaches me line upon line through revelation.

At first Peter didn’t understand the vision that God showed him three times. But His understanding was open more and more as He sought knowledge from the Lord and as He submitted to His will and proceeded in faith.

Vs 17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate. (Peter had been sufficiently prepared, so that he could act as the Lord directed Him through His Spirit.)

How has your own knowledge and understanding of a truth revealed to you deepened over time as you made application of the truth you were taught?

How does the Spirit speak to you?

Personal Study: I am a Christian because I believe in and follow Jesus Christ.

Acts 11:26 And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

We bear His name, even as His Church bears His name. Doctrine and Covenants 115:4

We have taken upon ourselves His name by covenant, and we renew that covenant each week. Doctrine and Covenants 20:77

Mosiah 5:7–15 We are called by His name.

Alma 46:13–15 There were Christians also among the Book of Mormon people, even many years before Christ’s birth.

Family Study: Pray for those who are imprisoned.

Acts 12:1–17 James was killed; Peter was cast into prison. People of the church prayed for Peter without ceasing. An angel woke Peter and told him to get up and get dressed and follow him.

Someone’s knocking at the door. Someone’s ringing the bell. Do me a favor open the door. Let him in. Sister Rhoda, Brother John. Everyone was astonished to see Peter!

Who is struggling with a heavy load or an addiction? Whom can you pray for?

Acts 12:5 If we pray without ceasing, then we are intent in our desire for answers and intervention. (Alma Senior did this for his son.)

Alma 34:27 Even when we cannot kneel in pray or pray aloud, we can carry that prayer and desire in our hearts. How can we yield that to God?

Family Study: Our Lives are filled with Blessings and Opposition and Trials

Acts 14 Pay attention in this chapter to the contrast of blessings and trials. Why do bad things happen to good people? (To make them even better.)

more.

Family Study: How are disagreements in the Lord’s Church resolved?

Acts 15:1–21 Circumcision is not a requirement of Christianity.

Great dissension arises at Antioch concerning circumcision—The Apostles at Jerusalem decide the issue—Paul chooses Silas as his companion.
