NT Come Follow Me 50

NT Come Follow Me Lesson 50

Introduction:

“Glory, and Power, Be unto … the Lamb for Ever”

Spiritual feelings and impressions are best understood when received and related through the Spirit.

Revelation 1:14–16 John used imagery to relate his own experience in seeing Jesus in Revelation.

He compared church congregations to candlesticks; Satan to a dragon; and Jesus to a Lamb.

The most important theme is “Jesus Christ and His followers will triumph over the kingdoms of men and of Satan.”

Personal Study: John’s vision teaches about Heavenly Father’s plan to save His children.

Joseph Smith Translation, Revelation 1:3 “Blessed are they who read, and they who hear and understand the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein, for the time of the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.”

As you read Revelation, look for these connections to the Plan of Salvation:

·        Chapters 5 and 12 describe events in the premortal life.

·        Chapters 6–1113–1416–19 describe mortal life and events in the history of the earth.

·        Chapters 2–31520–22 describe the Final Judgment and the glory that awaits the faithful.

What do these things teach me about God’s plan? What has God done to help me overcome evil and return to Him? What are His promises to the faithful?”

Doctrine and Covenants 77 This section explains some of the symbols in Revelation.

Revelation of John

(Come back to this section if you have more time.)

Personal Study: Jesus Christ is the Living Son of the Living God.

Revelation 1 Jesus’s appearance to John in vision. What can you learn about Jesus in this chapter? What can you learn about the Lord through the symbols in this chapter?

The Savior calls Himself “the beginning and the ending” and “the first and the last.”

Family Study: Ye are the Light of the World:

Revelation 1:20: Jesus compared the churches to candlesticks, and the servants to stars.

How should the Church be a light to the world?

Matthew 5:14–16 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

What are you personally doing to be a light to the world and inviting others to come unto Jesus and receive His doctrine and promises?

Christ chooses some as kings and priests unto God—Christ will come again—John sees the risen Lord.

Vs 2 John bore record of the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Vs 3 Seek to obtain the promisd blessings through reading the words of this prophesy and keeping the commandments therein. Jesus will return soon.

Vs 5-6
:
1. Jesus is a faithful witness.
2. He is the First One resurrected.
3. He is the King of Kings.

4. He loves all of us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.
5. He has made us kings and queens, priests and priestesses unto God our Father.

Because of His great goodness, may we join in in saying, "to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.:

Vs 7 He is returning to earth, and everyone will witness His return.

7. He is Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. He was God in heaven, and is God now, and will always be God.

Vs 10-11 John was commanded to write a book of the revelation he received and to send it to the churches.

Following verses, John describes his visit from the Lord with imagery.

Vs 17-18 Jesus laid His right hand upon John and told John not to be afraid.

8. He is the First and the Last.

9. He is alive forevermore.

10. He has the keys of hell and death, and can free the prisoners.

Vs 19-20 Jesus commands John to write the things of the vision and tells him what some of the things represent.

Shine On

Personal Study: Jesus Christ knows me personally and will help me overcome my challenges.

Revelation 2–3 Jesus understood the successes and struggles unique to each branch of the Church in John’s day; and He also does in our day. What do you learn from the Savior’s praise and warnings in Revelation and in our day?

The Savior also understands my successes and struggles, and He wants to help me. He has so many promises for you, if you allow Him to be central in your life so that He can help you overcome the worldliness that holds you down. Think on His promises. What can I do currently to more fully receive His help?

Family Study: Will We Listen to the Counsel of the Prophets and Apostles?

If John were asked to bring a message directly to your family, what would he say you are doing well? How might he let you know where to improve? Who does this for us in this day?

He who overcomes will gain eternal life, avoid the second death, inherit the celestial kingdom, and rule many kingdoms.

Vs 1-2 Then, like now, Jesus asks his servants to speak to the church. He knows our works and/or our idleness. If we look to Him, we will see that He is holding up light for us to follow. He knows our labors, struggles and patience and/or lack thereof. He will reveal those who are true and those who are not. Keep choosing to do well for His sake.

Vs 4-5 If you forsake the covenant path and the doctrine of Christ, you will lose your way. Make sure that you are always quick to repent.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

Vs 7 Work on overcoming, so that you can gain eternal life, and feel that light within you even now.

Vs 8-11 Counsel to the church in Smyra. The promise is from Jesus, the first and the last, He who lives:

I knows their trials and poverty, but they are rich in Spirit. None of us should fear prison or death; if we are faithful, will have a crown of etermal life.

Vs 12-17 John wrote to the servant of the church in Pergamos also, the words of the Lord:

He their works, and He knows ares. He knew they didn't deny faith in Him. Antipas was a faithful martyr.

He also warns them to forsake the doctrine of Balaam, and tells them to repent. This counsel is to us too. I want the hidden mana given to those who are diligently striving to overcome, and to one day receive the stone with a new name written on it.

Vs 18-23 The Lord's counsel to the church in Thyatira: He knows their work and ours.

He counsels them to not be seduced by those who are harlots trying to take us from the truth.

He searches the reins and hearts. He knows our works and will reward us accordingly.

Vs 24-29 If we stay on the covenant path and remain valiant in our testimonies of Jesus Christ, we can and will overcome. We need to keep His words throughout our lives, until the end, and we shall be given power in His kingdom.

https://site.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/rev/3?lang=eng

He who overcomes will retain his name in the book of life, reach godhood, and be with Jesus as He is with the Father.

Vs 1-6 Jesus counsels the church in Sardis to repent, to not walk as though alive but being dead.

We all need to be watchful and strengthen ourselves and each other. We need to remember the Lord and our covenants and hold fast to Him and repent. He is coming soon.

Keep your love bright and your garments white. Be clean. If we are valiant in our testimony of Jesus, He will confess us to his Father and before angels. We need it listen and hearken.

Vs 7-8 Such hopeful news for the Church in Philadelphia. Jesus says that He has opened a door that no one else can shut or open. He alone brought salvation.

He knows our works. If we are righteous, He sets before us an open door. If we only have a little strength and keep His word and deny not His name, He will hold that door open for us!

Vs 9-11 To those of Philadelpia and to all the faithful, Jesus also says that those who are deceitful and of Satan will one day come and worship at our feet, and they will know that Jesus has loved us.

If we keep His word patiently, He will also keep us from the hour of temptation, which is upon the world. Remember he is coming back quickly. Hold fast that which He's given you and don't allow anyone to steal your crown.

12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Vs 14-19 Jesus rebukes and counsels the church of the Laodiceans, and us:

Stop being lukewarm. You need to stay tight in the covenants you've made and live the first two great commandments, and seek to establish Zion.

The riches of the earth will not make you rich, but the riches of the kingdom. Go to the temple more; seek the things of God more; seek to do His will. Repent zealously.

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Personal Study: Only Jesus Christ Could Carry Out Heavenly Father’s Plan.

Revelation 4 We can learn more about Heavenly Father in this chapter.

Revelation 5 We can learn more about Jesus in this chapter.

Revelation 5:5 Jesus is the One that atoned for us and He’s been anointed to be King forever. He will open the book that is sealed tightly, that no one else can open.

Job 38:4–7 We were taught the Plan from the beginning. Jesus laid the foundations of this earth under the direction of our Father. We all sang together and shouted for joy. We had faith that He could perform the task He was called to do. We have always trusted in Jesus Christ.

Doctrine and Covenants 77:1–7 Explanations of Revelation found here, concerning the beasts and the seals.

Family Study: Lukewarm is neither hot or cold.

Revelation 3:15–16 The Lord is displeased when we sit on the fence and are not active participants on the covenant path.

He says He’ll spew those lukewarm people out of His mouth. Are there drinks your spit out because the temperature is not appropriate? When have you been lukewarm spiritually? Are you now? Is you have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can you feel so now? (See Alma 5)

Family Study: The Savior is knocking at our door.

Revelation 3:20 If we open the door, the Savior will come in and sup with us. We will have communion with Him and the Holy Spirit.

He will not barge into our houses, we have to invite Him, just like He invites us. How can I knock at His door?

Family Study: Worshiping our Heavenly Father

Revelation 4:10–11 We should worship God because of His love and mercy towards us.

10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Family Study: Why is Jesus Called the Lamb of God?

Revelation 5:6, 12–13 Jesus was the sacrificial Lamb on our behalf. Because of Him, we are redeemed from the Fall and if we seek to overcome, as He overcame, He will exalt us on high.

Though He suffered anguish and pain on our behalf, He gained the victory, not only for Himself, but for all of us. He has received all that the Father has, and the way is open for us to also receive the Gift of Eternal Life through Him.

Humble Birth

https://site.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/rev/4?lang=eng

John sees the celestial earth, the throne of God, and all created things worshipping the Lord.

Vs 1 It will be spectacular to witness a door being opened in heaven and to be invited to "Come up hither."

ff The throne of God is seen with beasts and men praising the Lord.

https://site.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/rev/5?lang=eng

John sees the book sealed with seven seals, and he sees those people redeemed out of every nation—He hears every creature praising God and the Lamb.

Vs 5-14 This is so beautiful. Jesus overcame all. He will open the book, and we will all sing praises to God and the Lamb forever and ever. Because of Him, I can return to my Heavenly Father and Mother, and become like Jesus, and become like them.
